What is Youth in Government?

Mission Statement

To provide leadership training to meet the needs of a democratic society and to develop an understanding and awareness of Michigan state government and national issues. To strengthen young people and communities through emphasizing character development and the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all that we do.

To this end the Michigan Youth in Government provides an authentic experience in the different branches of government to high school students. The program areas include: the legislative branch - legislature, legislative oversight committee, and lobbyists, the executive branch - a youth government and his/her cabinet, the judicial branch - a Model Judiciary were students are engaged in mock trials, National Issues Forum - a structured debate on national issues, the press- both written and video.
