Wilson’s Raid
In March of 1865, 27-year-old Major General James Wilson, would lead the last major cavalry raid of the Civil War. The Union horsemen made their way through Alabama and came to a successful end with the capture of Macon, Georgia. Please join us on Thursday, March 14 at 7 pm, as Dr. Steven Ramold takes us on the raid through Alabama.
Dr. Steven Ramold holds a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a specialization in Nineteenth Century American History and Military History. He is the author of "Slaves, Sailors, Citizens: African Americans in the Union Navy," "Baring the Iron Hand: Discipline in the Union Army," "Across the Divide: Union Soldiers View the Northern Home Front," and several articles on Civil War, military, and legal history topics.
After teaching at the University of Nebraska, Doane College, and Virginia State University, Dr. Ramold is currently Professor of American History at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He offers various courses in Civil War and Reconstruction, U.S. Military History, and the History of Sports.
